no luck.
set LANG=C before builds
built ecl with no options other than prefix (i install in ~/soft/ecl)
built vim only with --enable-eclinterp and prefix (~/soft/vim7), and
added ~/soft/ecl/bin to PATH so configure will find ecl-config.

and got the same E492 errors.
