ah yes, i was confused, see above

Still i would like to have more search paths available. If i encounter
documentations/web sites in the root for example i would like to be
able to click on it to get to sections people consider a subclass of
it like in this case web sites. To me this feels like a natural
feature.

yes i figured the screensize thing. and i'm also in no respect a
graphical designer, but if no-one reacts to your proposal to come up
with an alternative, i'll rearrange some stuff to see if i can
persuade you to nudge some of some stuff left or right.
