Just an update: you did write quite a bit, and I enjoyed reading it,
but haven't had time to respond yet.  In general, I think a "how to do
X in Lisp that you used to do in language Y" set of major headings
(see also the Perl manpages along the same lines, and the Common Lisp
Cookbook) would make the FAQ more useful for people new to Lisp but
not programming in general.

I've done quite a lot of Perl too, so I found your post interesting
and informative, and perhaps I can help out with Answers later on.
